Last 5 Galatasaray–Fenerbahçe derbies: High drama, hot scorelines
In Turkish football, nothing beats a Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce derby. Over the last two seasons, the two eternal rivals have faced each other not only in the Turkish Super Lig, but also in the Turkish Cup and the Super Cup.
It was never just about the scoreline: tensions, red cards, protests and post-match statements kept the rivalry boiling.
With a new derby on the horizon, let’s rewind and take a quick look at the last 5 Galatasaray–Fenerbahce derbies.
1) 2 April 2025 – Fenerbahce 1-2 Galatasaray
(Ziraat Turkish Cup, Quarter-final – Kadikoy)
This Turkish Cup quarter-final in Kadikoy was labelled “a final before the final” as soon as the draw was made. Galatasaray left the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium with a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from Victor Osimhen and booked their ticket to the semi-finals.
– Fenerbahce’s only goal came from Szymanski.
– With the score in their favour, Galatasaray slowed the tempo down and tried to control the game.
– Post-match clashes, heated moments between the coaches and the number of cards shown made this derby memorable for much more than just the score.
The win pushed Galatasaray closer to a domestic double, while on the Fenerbahce side it reopened debates about referees and squad choices.
2) 24 February 2025 – Galatasaray 0-0 Fenerbahce
(Turkish Super Lig – RAMS Park)
This league derby had a direct impact on the title race, but the scoreboard stayed frozen. In a tense night at RAMS Park, the game ended 0-0.
– Galatasaray saw more of the ball, especially in the first half, and tried to hurt Fenerbahce with wing attacks.
– Fenerbahce sat deeper, kept their defensive line compact and looked for quick counter-attacks.
– Clear chances were rare, fouls were frequent and the tension level never really dropped.
Both sides complained about refereeing decisions afterwards, but in terms of the table it was a “status quo derby”: nobody was knocked out of the race, nobody could open a clear gap either.
3) 21 September 2024 – Fenerbahce 1-3 Galatasaray
(Turkish Super Lig, Matchday 6 – Kadikoy)
This one was special because of both the Kadikoy atmosphere and the final scoreline. Galatasaray produced a statement win, beating Fenerbahce 3-1 away from home.
– Galatasaray’s goals came from Torreira, Mertens and Gabriel Sara.
– Fenerbahce’s only goal was a penalty converted by Dzeko, but in the final stages the hosts completely lost control of the game.
– The tension in the stands, protests towards the referee and shouting matches in the technical area turned it into a classic “Kadikoy derby night”.
The result gave Galatasaray a big psychological boost in the title race, while for Fenerbahce it reignited an old question: “What is the game plan in big matches?”
4) 19 May 2024 – Galatasaray 0-1 Fenerbahce
(Turkish Super Lig, Matchday 37 – RAMS Park)
As the season was nearing its end, this derby took centre stage in the title equation. Fenerbahce grabbed a 1-0 away win thanks to a goal from Çağlar Söyüncü.
– Galatasaray only needed a draw to secure the title, which made the defeat even more shocking for the home crowd.
– Fenerbahce kept their title hopes alive until the very last week and sent a clear message: “We are not giving up.”
– Post-match interviews, controversial refereeing decisions and heated discussions dominated TV shows for days.
Even though Galatasaray eventually clinched the championship a week later, this derby remained “the biggest consolation of the season” for Fenerbahce fans.
5) 7 April 2024 – Galatasaray 3-0 Fenerbahce (forfeit)
(TFF Super Cup – Sanliurfa)
Among the last five derbies, this was probably the most controversial one. For the TFF Super Cup final in Sanliurfa, Galatasaray fielded their full senior squad, while Fenerbahce mostly used U19 and fringe players.
– Galatasaray took the lead in the 1st minute with a goal from Icardi.
– Right after the goal, Fenerbahce players left the pitch in protest against the organisation and scheduling of the match.
– The game was abandoned. Later, the Turkish FA officially awarded Galatasaray a 3-0 forfeit win and the trophy.
That night in Sanliurfa became a symbol of off-pitch crises, federation decisions and the
